2009 Scholarship Judges and Awards

Scholarship Judges represent a college or university and award various levels of scholarships. Over 50 scholarships are expected to be awarded.

Allegheny College will award up to four Trustee Science Scholarships with a minimum annual amount of $12,500 per recipient. The recipients must meet the academic scholarship qualifications designated by the Office of Admissions and enroll at Allegheny College following high school graduation. Allegheny College is a national liberal arts college where 2,100 students with unusual combinations of interests, skills and talents excel. Preference for scholarship consideration will be given to students who embody the philosophy of the College and wish to explore their diverse interests after high school.

Carlow University will offer three Whalen Scholarships, each valued at $5,000 per year, and renewable up to three additional years, (total value is $20,000) with continued full-time enrollment and a cumulative GPA of 3.0. Eligible students must enroll at Carlow full-time upon graduation from high school in one of the following majors: biology (including concentrations in autopsy specialist, human biology, molecular/cell biology, organismal and ecological biology and secondary education), chemistry (including secondary education) or mathematics (including secondary education).

Carnegie Mellon University ill award two Pre-College Program Scholarships valued at $5,515 each. The scholarship will be utilized for the Advanced Placement/Early Action Program, which is a challenging, credit-bearing program in which students take two regular Carnegie Mellon classes for full credit. The credit can be used at Carnegie Mellon or may be transferred to other universities for advanced placement.

Chatham University will award four, $4,000 Chatham College Science Achievement Scholarships. These scholarships are non-renewable and recipients for the awards must meet academic qualifications designated by the Office of Admissions.

Duquesne University will award two scholarships valued at $10,000 each to outstanding high school juniors. All scholarships are renewable annually with a cumulative GPA of 3.0. Recipients of the awards must meet academic requirements designated by the Office of Admissions, and must enroll in Duquesne University’s Bayer School of Natural and Environmental Sciences the semester following their high school graduation. Students receiving these scholarships may not receive any other Duquesne academic scholarships. In addition, Duquesne University will offer four CCHS (College Credit in High School) awards. Two of these awards will be designated for courses up to three credits each and two will be designated for participation in the Duquesne University Summer Undergraduate Research Program.

Fairmont State University will award one scholarship from the College of Science and Technology. This award in the amount of $1,500.00 per year and will be made available to a full-time student and major in one of the programs offered by the College. The student must have a GPA of 3.5 or above. The scholarship is renewable for four years with the maintenance of a 3.0 cumulative GPA and successful efforts to make progress toward degree completion.

Gannon University will award two Science Fair Scholarships each valued at $8,000 ($2,000 per year for four years) to outstanding high school juniors. This academic scholarship is renewable each year with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and continued full time enrollment. Recipients of this award must meet academic requirements designated by the Office of Admissions and enroll at Gannon University as a full time student the semester following their high school graduation.

Geneva College will award up to four (4) scholarships valued at $8,000 each ($2,000 per year for four years). Recipients must meet admission requirements and major in a science related field. Acceptable science majors include Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, and Computer Science. Recipients must enroll at Geneva College immediately following their high school graduation. In order to maintain the scholarship for subsequent years, students must earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Harrisburg University of Science & Technology will award up to two full-tuition Science & Technology Scholar Awards. The recipients must meet the academic scholarship qualifications designated by the Office of Admissions and enroll at the University following their senior year of high school.

Penn State Altoona will award a limited number of Academic Excellence for Science and Engineering Scholarships. These scholarships will have a value of up to $5,000. To receive the scholarship, awardees must present SAT scores of 1200 or more, meet the academic requirements for admission, and enroll at Penn State Altoona. The scholarship is renewable with a cumulative minimum GPA of 3.4 and continued enrollment at Penn State Altoona.

Penn State Beaver will offer four non-renewable $1,000 Blue & White Scholarships. Recipient must present a minimum 1000 SAT score, a minimum 3.0 grade-point average, meet the requirements for admission, and enroll at Penn State Beaver. Scholarship amount will increase to $2,500 if student presents a minimum 1200 SAT score.

Penn State Greater Allegheny will offer up to five campus scholarships with a value ranging from $1,500 to $3,000 annually depending upon student's high school grades and SAT/ACT. The scholarship is renewable with a cumulative minimum grade point of 3.0 and continued full-time enrollment at Penn State Greater Allegheny. The student must meet all admission requirements and enroll as a full-time student at Penn State Greater Allegheny the semester following their graduation.

Penn State Greater Allegheny will offer Pre-College Grants to high school students wishing to take college courses at Penn State Greater Allegheny during their junior and/or senior year in high school. These grants will cover 50% of the tuition for the course. In order to qualify, the student must have a cumulative high school grade-point average of a 3.0. Students who complete at least two courses through this program and achieve a 3.0 grade-point average may earn an additional $1,000 for their first year in college if they enroll at Penn State Greater Allegheny the semester following their high school graduation.

Point Park University will offer two scholarships with a value of $5,000 per year. The Department of Natural Sciences and Engineering will participate in the selection of the recipients. Each scholarship is awarded for four years of study, provided the student meets the stated renewal criteria. Recipients of the scholarship must meet the academic requirements for admission and enroll at Point Park University.

Robert Morris University will award a limited number of merit scholarships and colonial grants valued at up to $10,000. All scholarships and grants are renewable annually with a cumulative GPA of 3.0. Recipients must meet all academic requirements designated by the School of Engineering, Math, and Science, and the Office of Admissions. The recipient must enroll in Robert Morris University’s School of Engineering, Math, and Science the fall semester following high school graduation.

Saint Francis University will award six Science Fair Scholarships of $4,000 ($1,000 per year for four consecutive years). Recipients must meet academic criteria for admission and scholarship at SFU and enroll in a science or math related major the semester following high school graduation.

Saint Vincent College will award three Science Fair Scholarships valued at $8,000 ($2,000 per year for four years). Student must enroll at Saint Vincent College following high school graduation, and maintain a 3.00 GPA.

Seton Hill University will award four Seton Hill University Science Fair Scholarships. Each scholarship will be valued at $8,000 ($2,000 per year for four consecutive years). Recipients must enroll at Seton Hill University in a science or math related major the semester following high school graduation.

The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg will award two University scholarships ranging from $2000 - $5000. Students must meet admission and scholarship criteria. Awards are renewable annually pending an overall GPA of 3.25 or higher. Enrollment at the Greensburg campus is required - awards are not transferable to another Pitt campus.

The University of Pittsburgh at Oakland in recognition of their achievement and participation in the Pittsburgh Regional Science and Engineering Fair, in the Engineering and Senior Science Categories, will award seven merit scholarships of up to $2,000. These students must meet the University's honor requirements, and must enroll in the University of Pittsburgh ’s School of Engineering or basic Science programs of the College of Arts & Science in the fall term following their high school graduation. All scholarships are renewable for students who maintain a grade point average of at least 3.0.

Waynesburg University The Science Achievement Scholarship, in the amount of $2,000 per academic year, is awarded to two students who enroll at Waynesburg University as a Biology, Chemistry, 3/2 Engineering, Forensic Science major or emphasis within each of these majors. In order to qualify for the scholarship, the recipient must have a cumulative high school GPA of 3.0. The scholarship may be awarded for four consecutive years as long as the student is enrolled full-time, maintains at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA and remains in the above listed majors. Students majoring in 3/2 Engineering will receive the award for the three years while attending Waynesburg University.
