Why do a research project?
BECAUSE:Upon graduation from high school a student has a variety of options such as obtaining a job, going to college to be a teacher, or training to be a chef. However, in ALL aspects of a students' life the knowledge and skills gained by completing a science or engineering research project will always be with them personally and in the workforce..THIS IS IMPORTANT FOR A RESUME AND JOB OPPORTUNITY
What is a Research Project?
A research project is when you use a step-by-step approach to answer a question or solve a problem. Scientist and Engineers do research projects. Scientists try to understand how nature works, engineers create things that never were or improve on a previous design. Scientists and engineers utilize technology in their research.
Steps Involved in a Research Project?
A Science research project is when you...
- Organize your research. Write in a journal.
- Explore a topic of interest.
- Quest-Ask a question or identify or define a problem.
- Search and review published materials related to your question or problem.
- Evaluate possible solutions and make your educated guess (hypothesis).
- Complete research forms and submit for approval to the Science Fair office-412-237-1534.
- Challenge and test your hypothesis through experimentation (data collection) analysis.
- Evaluate the results of your experiment and reach conclusions based on your data.
- Prepare your report and presentation board.
An Engineering research project is when you...
- Organize your research. Write in a journal.
- Explore a topic of interest
- Quest-Define a need. Develop how to do the design.
- Search literature to see what has already been done.
- Complete research forms and submit for approval to the Science Fair office-412-237-1534
- Prepare beginning designs.
- Build and test a model.
- Retest and redesign as necessary and Evaluate your product.
- Prepare your report and presentation board.
