The Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) is the
Olympics, the World Cup and the World Series of science competition.
Held annually in May, ISEF brings together more than 1,500 students
from 50 states and 50 nations to compete for over $1 million in
scholarships, tuition grants, internships, scientific field trips and
the grand prize: a trip to attend the Nobel Prize Ceremonies in
Stockholm, Sweden.
As the only local ISEF-affiliated Fair, PRSEF will nominate up to four
Senior Division students to attend ISEF. These students will win an all-expenses-paid trip to compete at ISEF on May 11-16, 2008, in Atlanta, Georgia. Since 2002, PRSEF
students have won over $60,000 at ISEF in cash prizes, scholarships and
trips.
Students that want to be judged for ISEF must be registered for PRSEF and submit a Preliminary ISEF Student Application Form and three (3) copies of your research paper. Only those who submit the Preliminary Application and research paper will be considered. The deadline for the Preliminary Application and research paper is Monday, March 10, 2008. 2007results — Three Pittsburgh Regional Science and Engineering Fair students competed at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, May 13-19, 2007 in Albuquerque, NM. They are Kerrick Dando from Franklin Regional Senior High School, Max Hutchinson from Mt. Lebanon High School and Cliff Kim from North Allegheny Senior High School.
Over 1,500 students from 50 counties competed for nearly $1 million in scholarships and prizes at the 58th Intel International Science & Engineering Fair. Cliff was awarded $1,000 as a Grand Award Winner for third place in the Chemistry Category with his project, Capillary Action in Continuously Tapered Narrow Gap Space. Congratulations Cliff!

2006results — Two Pittsburgh Regional Science and Engineering Fair students represented PRSEF and competed at ISEF Indianapolis, May 7-12, 2006. They are Abhiram Bhashyam from Bethel Park High School and Lavanya Sivakumar from Franklin Regional Senior High School. Abhiram was awarded $1,000 as a Grand Award Winner for third place in the Engineering Category with his project, An in vitro Study of Aerosol Delivery Using Carina Models.
2005 results — Two Pittsburgh Regional Science and Engineering Fair students competed at ISEF in Phoenix, Arizona, May 8-14, 2005. They are Mike Mi from Mt. Lebanon Senior High School and Abhiram Bhashyam from Bethel Park High School. Mike won the American Dental Association's $1,000 Sponsor Award.
Why should I apply to ISEF? ISEF is a prestigious international science competition. You’ll have the opportunity to meet new friends, speak with Nobel Laureates and see the sights of an exciting city. In addition, it’s a great resume booster on college applications.
I am registered for PRSEF. Do I still need to apply to be considered for ISEF? Yes. You must be a participant of PRSEF and submit the appropriate PRSEF forms. Then, you must also submit a Preliminary ISEF Student Application and three copies of your research paper. Only those who submit the application form and research paper will be considered.
Why is a Research Paper required? A research paper helps to organize data as well as thoughts. It provides the judges with an in-depth knowledge of your research prior to the competition and allows the judges to interview you thoroughly on Fair Day.
What does it take to make it to ISEF? An original research project designed and implemented by YOU that addresses a scientific or engineering problem. Remember, to get to ISEF, you must be the authority on your project!
