SciTech Spectacular Film Event

Recap of the 2005 Film Café - Friday, October 7, 2005 at the Harris Theater, Downtown Pittsburgh

Zany Umbrella Circus set the mood for the evening — rolling in on a German wheel — and welcomed visitors to this SciTech Spectacular Film Event.

Our audience that evening saw Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, winner of the 2005 Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. The film stars Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet and features Elijah Wood, Mark Ruffalo, Kirsten Dunst and Tom Wilkinson.

After the film, everyone enjoyed snacks and an interactive Q/A discussion with moderator and local independent filmmaker, Christopher Cussat, and guest speaker, Amy A. Overman, Ph.D., from the University of Pittsburgh Cognitive Neuroscience Department.

Questions that were discussed included: Could nanotechnology make the premise of this film a reality? Memories are preserved through pictures in our minds. Most of the time these memories are pleasant. But what if there were a way to erase a targeted painful memory? Would you do it? Should you? Will it be possible?

Enjoy an interactive experience from Eternal Sunshine. Visit the official site of Lacuna, the fictional company featured in this film that erases the personal memories of past loved ones.

A partnership with SciTech Spectacular and Pittsburgh Filmmakers.
