         Summer Architecture for high schoolers

• Architecture Studio: Context & Composition July 7-18 (two weeks) Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–3 p.m. $450 ($410 members) Meets at Carnegie Museum of Art Explore Oakland and investigate sustainable practices in urban planning and building design. Develop building designs with consideration for surrounding context and environmental factors, such as wind, sun, and rain. Focus on design development and learn representation methods including drawing in plan and section, renderings, and model-making. All materials are provided.

• Architecture Studio: Emerging Materials & Technologies July 21-August 1 (two weeks) Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–3p.m. $450 ($410 members) Meets at Carnegie Museum of Art Discover emerging trends in architectural design surrounding new materials, technologies, and construction processes. Learn analogue and digital representation skills used by architects to communicate their work. Broaden your understanding of architectural practices and consider the roles of aesthetics and abstract design ideas in your own work and in great buildings from the past and present. All materials are provided.

This program will challenge you to solve a mock attack on Carnegie Science Center while exploring real STEM careers. Retrieve the clues and assess the risks using engineering, chemistry, and materials science skills. Will you blaze the trail to a new science profession?

Explore how your interests can lead you to an awesome future.

Educator in Training
Think you might like to join the Science Center education team? Come try it out for a week as you learn the skills necessary for working with children, then practice under the supervision of our instructors. This camp includes a child care and babysitting certification course, orientation, behind-the-scenes tour of the Science Center, and the chance to assist with one of our camps.

Minecraft Extreme
Use the popular cubed world of Minecraft to explore and build in a cooperative 3D world where you mine for resources, then refine, combine, and use them to build amazing creations. Campers will use the periodic table of elements and examine how elements combine to form molecules. Discover how basic survival techniques that are beneficial in the game apply to real life. Learn about 3D modeling and watch as we print our Minecraft creations on a 3D printer!

         Summer Computer Mapping Technology Summer Camp

Taking a break for 2013- check back next year! Summer camp at Washington College, MD, for 7th-12th graders interested in learning about computer mapping technology, also known as geographic information systems (GIS).

         Summer National High School Game Academy (NHSGA) is an intensive study of video game design/development

This program includes an exciting blend of hands-on exercises combined with traditional lecture and discussion. Modeled after Carnegie Mellon's graduate program in Entertainment Technology and corporate sponsored by Electronic Arts, the NHSGA is structured to give students a taste of the current state of video game development and guidance towards embarking on their own career in the video game industry.

         Summer Environmental Science Camp @ Allegheny College

Two one-week environmental science opportunities - June 22-27 and July 6-11 for rising 10th and 11th graders.

Live in a residence hall, use scientific equipment, interact with environmental professionals and college professors and do hands-on environmental science/ecology research and activities. Application includes recommendation from a science teacher. Cost is $600 for room and board and supplies.

You also have the flexibility to customize camp operations to suit your own unique learning environment.

         school year KidScience (Zoo)

KidScience is a year-long program designed to introduce middle school students to methods and principles related to conservation biology. KidScience students become part of the Zoo research team, and get hands-on experience doing real animal behavior research. Through this program, students gain an understanding of research methods and skills, cooperation, and teamwork, environmental stewardship, and they are exposed to animal and science-related careers. Activities include classroom lessons, data collection and analysis, behind-the-scenes tours, research projects, and animal encounters.
