Getting a Winning Look, Your Visual Display
Presentation and Construction
Be sure to adhere to the specific size limitations and safety rules. Your presentation board may not exceed the following:
- Width: 48" (122 cm)
- Depth: 30" (76 cm)
- Height: 78" (198 cm) for tabletop exhibits, 108" (274 cm) for floor exhibits
- Weight: no more than 250 lbs. All exhibits exceeding 100 lbs. must be mounted on a dolly with rubber casters. Oversized exhibits will be disqualified.
- All exhibits must be freestanding (no wall mounts).
- Make sure your display is sturdy. It must remain intact for quite a while.
- Include only the current year's work.
- Contents should include: title, purpose, hypothesis, procedure, results, conclusion, project data book, abstract, research paper. (Judges evaluate your research, any three-dimensional objects displayed are incidental.)
- Ask adults for advice when needed.
- Your goal is to attract attention and give information. Make it easy for interested spectators and judges to assess your study and the results. Make the most of your space using clear and concise elements. Headings should stand out. Draw graphs and diagrams clearly and label them correctly.
Safety
"When in doubt, do without."
Leave glassware and chemicals at home.
Do not bring..
- liquid (not even water). Label your bottles to indicate what was inside.
- sharp objects (tacks, nails, needles, pipettes, syringes)
- soil or waste products
- living organisms (plants, animals, microbes)
- dry ice or other sublimating solids
- flames or highly flammable materials
- batteries with open top cells
- photographs or other visual presentations depicting vertebrate animals in other-than-normal conditions (i.e. surgical techniques, dissection, necropsies or other lab techniques)
- awards, business cards, medals
- personal photographs, accomplishments, phone or fax numbers
- NOTE: The PRSEF inspectors reserve the right to eliminate an object from an exhibit in order to maintain a safe environment at the PRSEF. Please practice common sense when determining what to exhibit at the PRSEF.
